Two of the most popular kids summer party themes are the Carnival party and the Hawaiian Luau. With either you can really go all out with your decorations and there are many different ways to do that. With both you can make a lot of the decorations and games yourself and that is perfect if you do not have a lot of money for a party right now. The Carnival Party
Let's start with the Carnival party ideas. A Carnival is the ideal theme for spring, summer and early fall. It is also a great kids party theme because it is all about fun and game, prizes and food. You remember the last time you went to the midway? The first thing that hits you when you get to a carnival is the music, lights and rides...and then the smells begin to hit you. The popcorn, cotton candy, funnel cakes, the delicious aromas surround you and you have got to eat something right away. The burgers, hot dogs, candy apples, pretzels, all tempt you and make you feel as though you have never eaten before. Plan some simple foods for your backyard summer party and make sure to include some of the must haves. That includes the cotton candy and the hot dogs for sure.
After you eat you are looking to play some games and win some prizes that you can only find at a carnival. The stuffed animals, the back-scratchers, the squeeze balls, glow sticks and the plastic leis are just a few of the toys and novelty items you can win by playing the fun carnival games.
The mention of game prizes brings us to the games. Milk Bottle Toss, the Hi-striker, the Balloon and Dart game, Clothespin Drop, the Lollipop Tree, Duck Pond, Fish Bowl Ping Pong Toss or anything that involves a bean bag are all fun, fun, fun games for a Carnival party. I am sure you remember playing them from days spent on the carny midway. Most of these games are easy enough for you to make too so that can save you lots of money.
Set up booths using cardboard boxes or card tables. Hang some shower curtains on your fence line and place your game tables and booths up against them. Hang bunting or colored streamers around the party. Fill bright plastic kids buckets with candies and goodies to decorate your party tables. Red or red and white stripe table cloths are perfect. The final feat you can perform is the popcorn cupcakes. These easy to make cupcake designs are fun to look at. All you have to do is top your frosted cupcakes with some mini marshmallows. Wait til you hear the oohs and ahhs from your guests.
The Hawaiian Luau Party
The Hawaiian Luau or the Hawaiian birthday party is another fun kids summer party idea. A Luau is another outdoor party that you can make a lot of decorations for. You remember the big tissue flowers we used to make when we were kids, right? Well, they would be perfect to hang on your fence line and put on the center of each party table.
A Hawaiian Luau birthday is another party that reminds us right away of a couple of fun party games. The Limbo and the Hula are must play activities at a Luau. The Hula is a dance, not a game, unless you make it a game. Have a hula contest or see who can Hula the best using Hula Hoops. The Limbo or how low can you go is lots of fun too. Get some authentic Hawaiian music for both of the games.
The food at a Luau doesn't have to be authentic Hawaiian Luau recipes. Use fruits and put them on kabobs. Chicken on kabobs sounds great too. Add a salad and some grilled corn on the cob for a wonderful party meal. Now for dessert you can use your fruit kabobs or have some melted chocolate and let the kids dip some cut up fruit. Add some cupcakes with palm tree picks in them or go all out and bake a volcano cake to amaze your young guests.
